Maurya Couvares, Principal

 

Maurya Couvares is the Founder and Principal at ClearHatch Consulting. She brings nearly 20 years of experience in the nonprofit, corporate social responsibility and education sectors to ClearHatch clients.

Most recently, Maurya served as the National Director for Laureus USA, a grant-making, non-profit organization that supports the growth and deepens the impact of programs that use sport as a tool for social change. During her tenure, the organizational budget grew from $5m-$10m and the team grew from 9 to 15 people.

Maurya is the Co-Founder and former Chief Executive Officer of Code Nation, a nonprofit that equiped students in under-resourced high schools with the skills, experiences, and connections that together created access to careers in technology. From 2012-2019, she grew Code Nation from an idea to a national nonprofit that served thousands of students across the country, employed 35+ full time staff members and fundraised an annual budget of $6 million.

Previously, she managed Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton's global pro bono practice group, whose volunteers contribute over 90,000 hours of pro bono and public service time annually across their 16 law offices around the world.

Before arriving at Cleary Gottlieb, she taught United States history to middle school students in West Philadelphia as a Teach for America Corps Member. 

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College, graduating cum laude with a major in Philosophy and a minor in American Studies (Concentration in Inequality in America). While an undergraduate at BC, she spent her junior year abroad at Oxford University. She's completed coursework in Urban Education at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education and earned a Certificate of Business Excellence from Columbia University's Graduate School of Business. 

Finally, Maurya is an All American triathlete and has represented Team USA as an amateur at the Triathlon World Championship from 2016 onwards. She is a USA Triathlon Level 2 Coach and a former NCAA Division 1 collegiate swimmer. She was also the founding head coach of Wagner College's NCAA Division 1 Women's Triathlon Team. She continues to compete as a triathlete, is a mom, and is based in Brooklyn, NY.
